Rick Burnett: In the Possibility Living book you talk about the power that created the body also heals the body.  Dr. Schuller, can you elaborate on this for us?

Dr. Robert A. Schuller:      I've been preaching this message for a long time!  God is a powerful God.  Trying to measure the power of God is like..well, you can't even begin to measure the power of God.  The prophet Isaiah said it rhetorically:  "who can measure the waters in the hollow of his hand, who can weigh the mountains in a scale" - Isaiah 40 goes on to talk about the power of God - it is just so immense that we can't even begin to comprehend it.  So, once we understand who God is and how powerful and magnificent He is, we realize it is God who simply spoke and the earth was formed.  He spoke and the heavens were created. He spoke and everything we know came into existence.  He created you and me.  The bible says on the seventh day He rested.  It doesn't say God quit!  It says God rested.  That means that on the eighth day He went back to work.  He has continued to create and sustain and that creative power continues to this day.  Every time we hear a newborn baby cry, or whenever we see a budding flower, or new life created, we can be reminded that God is real and He is truly in the creation business!  So, let's put that on one hand and let's put our problems in the other hand.  Let's say we have the most horrific problem we can think about, such as terminal cancer.  The doctor says your dying.  First of all, as I have said before, the Doctor doesn't really know when you're going to die - only God knows that.  But, let's say the doctor has given you that diagnosis.  Let's put that on one side of the scale and then let's put the power of God and His word on the other side of the scale.  God's side of the  scale says you can say to your mountains move and they will move; that scale says "ask and it will be given to you, seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened", that scale says "all things are possible, if you only believe."  Is it possible that the power, which created you, has the power to heal you.  Is it possible that the power that put all those cells together that continue to replicate to the point that you came into being - is it possible that power could eliminate the cancer growth or tumor - regardless of where it is?  I absolutely believe the power that created you has the power to heal you!

Rick Burnett:    The Chiropractic profession uses the term innate intelligence.  Dr. DiSiena, tell us what this means?

Dr. Douglas DiSiena:   Innate means "wisdom within."  It's the intelligence within.  That, in essence, is the wisdom that God gave us to heal us.  That power within us, within all living things for that matter, just doesn't go away after we are born.  That power continues on the job, as innate intelligence to heal us, to restore us, and to ultimately give us our full potential.  So, as long as we have this intelligence within, we can have faith that the God we love and serve will take care of us. 

Rick Burnett:  This innate intelligence, not only do Chiropractors believe in it, there are medical doctors who believe in this also, correct?

Dr. Douglas DiSiena: Yes, correct.

Rick Burnett:  What role does the nervous system play in health and the cause of disease?

Dr. Douglas DiSiena:   I love this question because I talk about this all the time!  It's not just the nerve system.  I've seen a lot of cadavers.  I've dissected many cadavers.  Guess what - they all have a nervous system.  Those people are not healing or healthy - that's for sure!  It's not the nerve system, it's the power which utilizes the nerve system as its conduit, as a transmission, of that energy.  It's what we call LIFE.  That life is the manifestation of function.  As long as the nerve system has that thing called life and it can go from the mind to every tissue cell in your body, that tissue cell is going to manifest life.  There are two things that will interrupt that - toxic thoughts and toxic physiology.  If those two things are removed, then you will have maximum expression of life.  When you have maximum expression of life, there is minimal chance of disease.  It's as simple as that! 

Rick Burnett:    Dr. Schuller, would you like to add to that?

Dr. Robert A. Schuller:   Yes, I see that life is absolutely a critical part of understanding who we are.  Our souls are integrated within our physical and mental wellbeing.  To try and separate the body, mind and spirit is something that cannot take place.  We have to look at it as a whole.  The body, mind and spirit working together.  As it works together it synergistically is rejuvenated with the power of God from that innate ability that God gave the body to seek wellness.  As we eliminate the barriers through detoxification, through nourishment and through positive thinking, the body will crash through and eliminate disease and sickness and continue to heal and create wellness. 

Rick Burnett:  Dr. DiSiena, you mentioned two things that will get in the way of our wellness, toxic thoughts and toxic physiology.  How can detoxifying our thoughts work to detox our body?

Dr. Douglas DiSiena:  Basically, toxic thoughts are a form of stress and that stress interferes with the transmission of that intelligence over the nerve system.  Very simply, I can talk to a person and recall a stressful event in their life and at the same time measure their blood pressure.  What do you think happens to their blood pressure as they recall a stressful event?  The blood pressure would go up, their heart rate would go up, respirations would go up.  Those are not life enhancing sequences or happenings because your body thinks it is going through the fight or flight response.  So, as long as we remove as much of that toxic stress as we can, the body will allow that intelligence unencumbered to go to work.  In the past we've also talked about toxic physiology in terms of the mechanical pressure that can be on the nerve system.  That's what chiropractors do - we remove that mechanical pressure on the nerve system which disrupts the ability of the nerve system to transmit that energy.  We don't even know what that energy is, except that when you have that energy we measure it by an EEG, and when you don't have that energy, you're dead!  As long as that energy is there and can transmit, then you'll have maximum life potential. 

Dr. Robert A. Schuller:  I was sharing this with an MD one time and he said if the nerve is blocked, then how is there communication: and, he said through chemicals.  So, ever since then I've been saying you have a choice of having a "direct telephone line" in your body, or using the "chemical system" which is like Morse code.  So, how would you like to communicate - through a telephone line, or Morse code?  Which do you think is going to be more productive and more efficient?  So, if you want the proper communications, I think it would be beneficial to let the nervous system do what it is designed to do.

Dr. Douglas DiSiena:  Here's an adjunct to that - those neuro chemical transmitters are actually originally stimulated by the activity of the nerve system.  Then they go to certain areas of the body which transmits that chemical.  So, even if you take that back to its genesis, it is ultimately a nerve system which starts the process.  

Dr. Robert A. Schuller:   So, if the nerve system is blocked, then the whole process is deformed. 

Dr. Douglas DiSiena:    Yes, we mention this in the book.  We talk about the transmission to the vagus nerve.  You can have that nerve impinged upon and that vagus nerve goes throughout the entire network of the body - it goes to every detoxifying organ.  So, imagine if someone has a pinched nerve on the vagus nerve, every detoxifying organ for the most part is diminished in its ability to function. 

Dr. Robert A. Schuller:  Through physiology, you know where that nerve is - right?  It's in between which vertebrae?

Dr. Douglas DiSiena:   Actually, it's in the upper brain stem area.  It's effected through the brain stem.  It doesn't come out of the nerve root, but it is effected in the upper cervical region.

Dr. Robert A. Schuller:  So, adjusting the atlas would release that, right?

Dr. Douglas DiSiena:  Exactly! 

Dr. Robert A. Schuller:  Most people you know who have never had chiropractic care - what percentages of those people "have their heads on straight", in other words, how many people's atlas is off?

Dr. Douglas DiSiena:  Over 90%! 

Dr. Robert A. Schuller:   If you've never had a chiropractic adjustment, you have a 90% chance that the vagus nerve is pinched?

Dr. Douglas DiSiena:  That's correct!

Rick Burnett:   In the past we've talked about A.D.I.O. (Above, Down, Inside, Out).  Explain how ADIO leads to toxic free physiology.  This sounds like more of a Dr. DiSiena question, so let's start with you Dr. DiSiena.

Dr. Douglas DiSiena:  Well, this is actually very much of a theological question as well.  When we say above, we literally mean God.  We mean that truly God is the divine healer.  That healing power comes from God and dwells within each one of us.  That indwelling power is what heals us.  All we have to do is appreciate it and not block it.  If we just get rid of the blockages, then that wonderful healing process - I'm sure as we sit here talking there is healing going on.  I'm sure God is doing healing right now - I hurt my thumb over the weekend, and I know it is being healed.  The inflammation and swelling in my thumb will be reduced within 24 to 48 hours.  There is nothing that I have to do to help that process. It will just occur.  So, Dr. Schuller, why don't you finish up with the Above, Down, Inside, Out question.

Dr. Robert A. Schuller:      I think what Dr. DiSiena said is so true.  There are actually two questions.  If God is so good and if He's so powerful, why am I sick?  I'm a Christian, I believe in His power, I've prayed to Him - why am I sick?  Well, there are specific reasons why you're sick.  So, I would look at what is the root cause of your illness.  There's a good chance it is physiological.  We've already talked about the fact that if you've never had a chiropractic adjustment, you have a 90% chance of having problems.  In your career Dr. DiSiena, how many patients have you x-rayed? 

Dr. Douglas DiSiena:   Probably about 10,000. 

Dr. Robert A. Schuller:  Of those 10,000 who have not had chiropractic care in the past - how many have had their atlas on straight?

Dr. Douglas DiSiena: Less than 5%.

Dr. Robert A. Schuller:   So, if you've never had chiropractic care, those are the odds of your atlas being on straight.  And, if your atlas is not straight, you have a blockage that prevents the healing power in your body that God has created.  If you get chiropractically adjusted, that power will be released and will begin healing your body.  It will increase your immune system of up to 200%.  That immune system will then go and start doing what it is intended to do.  Our immune system fights cancer cells.  Our immune system fights bacteria.  Our immune system fights viruses.  Our immune system fights everything that I not supposed to be within the body.  So, if you eliminate the blockages and allow the innate power that God created to work, you will begin the process of wellness.  That's just thing you can do.  There's also the entire process of detoxification which we go through in the book. 

Dr. Douglas DiSiena:  So, what you're saying is that God is not out there trying to "get" somebody.  Most of the time, we're doing stuff to ourselves, to harm ourselves.

Dr. Robert A. Schuller:   Yes.  God is always in the process of creating health, wellness and life.  He is a God of goodness, health and life!  The opposite is death.  God is not about death, God is not about pain, God is not about bad things - those things do happen.  The rain falls on the just and the unjust alike.  But, when God allows those negative things to take place in your life, He takes those things and turns them into good, so that He creates a better world.
